The Indigenous, Solidarity, and Awareness Network of Oxford County will be hosting a cross-culture youth conference in Woodstock on August 28th.
WOODSTOCK - The Indigenous, Solidarity, and Awareness Network of Oxford County (ISAN) is inviting everyone to help build the fire.
It's going to be hosting an event that's all about inter-community collaboration and youth empowerment at Unifor Local 636 in Woodstock next Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m..
ISAN Director Patricia Marshal says it's a cross-culture youth conference.
"We just want to basically inspire our youth from the different communities about how they can collaborate together, and how they can build a better future together. Based on the Eighth Fire prophecy with building that fire, we are all a spark and we have the ability to spark other people to do better."
The event will include a few guest speakers, some live music, several artisan workshops and a special community feast with African, Indigenous and Canadian specialties.
Marshal explains how you can get tickets for this event.
"You can find them on Eventbrite or at the door. We do have a full-day ticket for $15, a ticket for just the afternoon which would be the concert and the market for $10, but we also have equitable tickets available because we don't want the financial barriers to prevent people from being able to participate. We really do want to build a community fire."
The event is geared towards youth over the age of 14 and you can find more information on the ISAN Facebook page.
Patricia Marshall called the Heart FM studio with Big Zee, one of the musical acts, on Friday August 16th. You can listen to their full interview with Dan Henry below:
