The draft budget, which covers everything from capital to operating costs comes in at $214.5 million dollar overall budget with $52.4 million proposed for capital budgets.
OXFORD COUNTY - Budget deliberations continue at Oxford County council.
Warden Larry Martin says they won't over the numbers last Thursday and today is the day when councillors can propose changes.
"At the end of the day if they feel there is going to be some notices, motions coming forward with regards to any deletions or additions, so by the end of the day, hopefully, we will know where we're at as far as what the final number may be prior to our final meeting on January 9th."
Martin says the budget did not change after Thursday's meeting.
"We started at 9 in the morning and we finished around 3:30 in the afternoon and it was mostly questions on Thursday, no deletions or additions at that point in time."
The 2019 Business Plan and Budget Draft proposes a general levy of 59.4 million dollars, which would mean an increase of 5.8% over 2018.
With the County’s property tax assessment base growing by $30 million to an estimated $308.8 million, the average single family detached residential property valued at $263,813 would see municipal taxes increase by $20 for the year if the budget is approved.
The overall draft budget is currently set at $214.5 million dollar overall budget. $52.4 million would be invested in capital projects. Crockett says staff have looked at a lot of factors to create this draft budget.
The budget process will continue again today and then will have a final reading in the New Year. You can read more about the budget online here.
