Liz Truss calls it quits not long after winning leadership race
Breaking news out of Britain...
After 44 days in office, British Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned.
It was only yesterday that she claimed to be a fighter, and would push through the tough start to her leadership.
She is bowing to the inevitable after her policies triggered economic turmoil in financial markets and a rebellion in her party that obliterated her authority.
She says she cannot deliver the mandate on which she was elected.
The opposition is demanding a general election, after her departure as the shortest serving PM in British history.
