Community look for funds to purchase more holiday lights for hydro poles along Hwy 59
A group of Burgessville residents are looking to increase the Christmas spirit once again in their community.
Members of the 2013 Canada Day Committee have turned their efforts to fundraise for additional snowflake lights for the hydro poles that line Highway 59 through the village.
Committee Member Ruth Storey..
"After Canada Day in Burgessville we had some extra money so we bought eight sets of lights to decorate our village street. We decided to add on to those lights."
Storey says the fundraising campaign will run until the middle of May.
"We already have enough money for four more new sets of lights so we have done really well already thanks to the community. People who donate $20 or more get a tax receipt and if you donate $50 or more we are going to add your name to a plaque that will be on display in the village."
Storey says each shooting snowflake light costs about $500.
"We have already up four connections on poles where we can add four more sets. If we get more than that the Township is going to help us add more connections so we hope to, right along 59, put up more lights."
Storey says there are several donation boxes set up in businesses around the village as well, those interested in donating can contact Storey at 519-424-9165 or Dave Topham at 519-424-2240.
