The Wednesday Breakfast for the Unbroken - a new event aimed at bringing awareness to mental illness and suicide - has sold out.
WOODSTOCK - Wednesday marks the first time ever the local Rotary Club branches from Oxford County join together to take part in a gathering called Breakfast for the Unbroken. President of the Woodstock Rotary Club, Chris Cunningham, offers her insight on what the breakfast is set to accomplish. "It is a project of the 5 Rotary Clubs in Oxford County that have come together. It is an entire piece, an awareness piece, on mental health. What we are looking for out of this, with Rotary, is to help eradicate the stigma against mental health and suicide."
Cunningham, is thrilled with the turnout expected at the Quality Hotel and Suites tomorrow morning. "This is our very first event and I can't tell just how thrilled I am! We started it off with the modest thought that we will print tickets between 100-200 we met that match very quickly. It just proves to us that we've hit at a social topic of great importance, everyone knows someone, and it is time to start sharing those stories."
All the Rotary Clubs from Oxford County will be present with Cunningham adding that mental wellness is a topic that is too real, but it's time for the public to stand up and give those suffering a voice. "Mental wellness and suicide are very real issues, and I think society doesn't know what to do about it. We need to acknowledge that it is happening and it can effect anyone."
Keynote Speaker, George Smitherman, will take the stage in front of a sold out audience of over 230 people as 4 different Champion Awards will be distributed in hopes that this will become an annual event.
