The County of Brant has declared a Climate Emergency after a presentation from 12 year old Ben Pickles.
BRANT COUNTY - The County of Brant has declared a Climate Emergency.
Mayor David Bailey says they made the declaration at their latest council meeting on Tuesday night.
“We acknowledge that the County is experiencing impacts from more intense storms and volatility of weather patterns. At the County, we have committed to taking actions to increase our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the resilience of our community. We will develop a plan to combat climate change and we will call on community members do their part.”
The County of Brant has set the goal to be net carbon neutral by 2050. Bailey says the decision was made after a presentation from 12 year old Ben Pickles.
“I requested my young friend, Ben Pickles, to bring the resolution forward. He exhibits a strong social conscience and is a community leader.”
The County of Brant joins 470 other Canadian municipalities, the Government of Canada and more than 1190 governments around the world in recognizing climate change as a clear and present danger to our community and the need to transition to an ecologically and socially regenerative economy.
