Booze Now Available in Ontario Convenience Stores

Licenced corner stores can sell alcoholic beverages from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

ONTARIO - Convenience stores across the province will start selling alcoholic beverages today.

A total of 4,200 licences have been issued by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, allowing these stores to sell booze between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.

However, 20 percent of the beer, cider, and pre-mixed cocktails must be from small Ontario producers. In terms of wine sales, the number drops to 10 percent.

Kenny Shim, the President of the Ontario Convenience Store Association, says the affected stores can expect an increase in foot traffic, adding that this is an exciting time for corner store owners in the middle of a bad economy.
