A City-County councillor is looking to make the city more accountable for the Woodstock Public Library.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Public Library Board could be downsizing in the near future.
The board currently has eight members, including two city councillors.
But Councillor Deb Tait introduced a Notice of Motion last night that would cut the total down to five, still including two city representatives.
"The way that the Library Act is set up, it all goes through the board. Nothing goes through City Hall with the library. This is very important that we have more accountability, so 40 percent of the vote is with council because we are the elected people."
Tait says this comes after the library employees almost went on strike a couple of weeks ago.
"When negotiations were going on, Councillor (Connie) Lauder and I sit on the board and information was not coming forward and we were receiving false information. It was very challenging and upsetting for everyone involved; especially the library workers."
Council will vote on the motion at their next meeting.
