A new safety measure being added to Oxford County snow plows is looking to improve road safety for all drivers.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new flashing blue light has been added to 20 of Oxford County's snow plows to help identify the edge of the plow closet to oncoming traffic.
Supervisor of Roads Operations for the County of Oxford Scott Boughner says snow plows that clear four lane County roadways will also feature a flashing amber light on the wing blade to help drivers see when they are travelling behind a snow plow.
"The response that we have heard from our drivers has been positive. They say that the motoring public seem to see that and move over to make sure there is a clear way for them to go through." Boughner says while the new lights will help, safety on the roadways is everyone's responsibility. "Whenever they are approaching a plow -- either following from behind or approaching it from the opposite direction -- just approach with caution. The plows have to swing out for signs and mailboxes and stuff."
