Woodstock Police are offering up some safety tips for cyclists as they launch their bike patrol season today.
WOODSTOCK - Bike Patrol season starts today for the Woodstock Police Service.
You will start to see uniformed officers on bicycles in the Friendly City starting today. Cyclists are reminded to always wear your helmets and follow the rules of the road while you are out and about this bike season. Woodstock Police point to four simple steps for bicycle safety;
1. Protect Your Head; always wear a helmet.
2. Obey All Traffic Laws And Lights; Bicycles must follow all rules of the road, just like other vehicles.
3. Act Like A Car; Drivers are used to the patterns of other drivers. The more predictable you ride, the safer you are. Check for traffic and be aware of the traffic around you.
4. Use Hand Signals; Hand signals tell motorists and pedestrians what you intend to do. Signal as a matter of law, of courtesy and of self protection.
Motorists are also asked to share the road, check your mirrors and make sure to watch out for our friends on two wheels.
