Ingersoll resident Mike Farlow donates his FutureOxford prize to Operation Sharing
OXFORD COUNTY - Operation Sharing got a big boost, thanks to Ingersoll resident Mike Farlow.
Farlow was one of the winners of the FutureOxford Community sustainability contest and won 12 weeks worth of 10 pound baskets of local organic produce from Bentum Family Farms which he then donated to Operation Sharing.
"Operation Sharing has been a wonderful organization in terms of seeing those that need easier access to a meal and have the greatest need get it are able to get it. It really, it was just a logical, let's put this wonderful resource to the greatest need. It wasn't giving it away it was just following the philosophy of helping to make Oxford County even greater than it already is."
Farlow says the local food donation was a great way to support the ideas he made in his submission. "The fact that Operation Sharing is willing to take that food and see that it gets distributed to where it's needed most -- just showing some of the amazing things that we have in this County that can help us lead towards being more sustainable. Not only in terms of the environment but also in terms of food."
Farlow's submission included both photography and writing.
Member of Operation Sharing's Board of Directors John Klein-Geltink says it's hard to pin point the exact number of people this donation will help.
"If it goes to the soup kitchen, they usually have anywhere from 60-80 people a day that come in to it so it could effect quite a few people."
