It's a program that local restaurants and bars could be looking at a year from now. A pilot program called "Best Bar None" is being tested in Toronto's Entertainment district this year. It's an accreditation program for establishments who have industry leading practices when it comes to managing the alcohol they're selling to consumers. It's a program that has been a huge success in reducing crime and binge drinking problems in London, England. It has also been a success in Alberta. President and CEO of Ontario Rest, Hotel/Motel Association, Tony Elenis says there's a number of reasons for it. "It's an accreditation and awards program that recognizes responsible management and operation of alcohol licensees. And there's a number of reasons for that, from social responsibility, but also from economic responsibility with the liabilities for bars today." The accreditation involves a questionnaire, and a site visit from an assessor to a bar's practices involving the serving of alcohol.
