SWEABURG - The Beachville Volunteer Firefighters' Association are inviting you to come out and support their second annual breakfast. The breakfast will take place at the Sweaburg Lions Pavilion on June 14 from 8 a.m. until noon. President of the Beachville Volunteer Firefighters' Association Craig Gillis says no one should leave hungry. "It's $10 a plate for adults, $5 for kids under 10, and preschoolers free. There will be fire trucks to see, and meet your local volunteer firefighters. And we talked to the famous Sparky firedog - he might be there to see the kids. Might give them a little something."
Craig Gillis explains where the money raised from the event will be going. "We use the money for various things throughout the year, depends on what happens. Sometimes charities reach out to us and we can help them a little bit. We do use some of the funds to help the firefighters themselves and different events that we put on. Small supplies within the hall we sometimes purchase with this money."
After a successful event last year the Beachville Firefighters' Association are ready to make the fireman's breakfast even bigger for 2015 with numerous activities taking place for all ages. Gillis knows the money raised will strengthen the force internally but also in the community as well. "Just raising funds for the Association. For the various things we do. Mostly betterment in the community. Last year we participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge - donated money to that. Different needs of the Association of the Firefighters because you know the rural guys aren't funded the same way the full-time guys are."
