George Bruce Banbury has never missed a Township Council meeting in 16 years and he's looking to serve another term as a councillor.
BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - A long-standing councillor in Blandford-Blenheim has decided to seek re-election.
George Bruce Banbury has been a Township Councillor for 16 years now.
"I enjoy being a councillor. I have never missed a meeting in 16 years, I am really dedicated to the Township of Blandford-Blenheim and the political process."
Banbury has witnessed a lot during his time on council including the expansion and rehabilitation of the Plattsville Arena. He also played a role in converting the Oxford County Police Service to the Woodstock Police Service and Oxford OPP.
If he serves another term, he would like to see the County start to build up residential development, instead of expanding out onto essential farmland. He says there needs to be an overhaul of planning in the province, requiring mid-sized cities like Woodstock and Brantford to do this.
"We should learn some lessons here and plan ahead for 40 or 50 years and not be thinking just until the next election. It's very important that we preserve our farmland so we can at least have good food to eat."
Blandford-Blenheim residents will head to the polls on Monday October 24th.
