The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the Umnitza brand of baby cereal products is being recalled because they may contain the chemical known as mycotoxin HT-2. Mycotoxins are produced by the Fusarium species of moulds, which can grow in a variety of crops and foods, including cereals. The federal agency says eight flavours of the cereal have been recalled by its importer, Toronto-based Wonder Berry North America. The C-F-I-A says there has been one reported illness associated with eating the cereal, which is imported from Russia and has Russian writing on the packaging. The affected products have been distributed in Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Mycotoxins are produced by the Fusarium species of moulds, which can grow in a variety of crops and foods, including cereals and may cause nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
