Eight homes were evacuated and several roads were closed in Woodstock this morning following an armed stand off. Police were called to a Normandy Drive home just after 3:30 this morning after reports of a 30 year old intoxicated man assaulting family members and armed with a nail gun. Police evacuated the home and the man was contained into the basement, that's when he began to cut the Natural Gas supply to the home. Police were able to turn off the gas at the outside meter. Just after 5:30 police say the man started a large fire in the basement of the home before surrendering to police. The home sustained 100 thousand dollars in damage. Evacuated residents have been allowed back into their homes. No word on any charges. The investigation continues.
