The theme for Emergency Preparedness Week this year is "Are You Ready"
It's Emergency Preparedness Week in Ontario.
Emergency Management Program Manager for the County of Brant Kent Pottruff says the theme this year is Are You Ready.
"The purpose of this year’s theme is to encourage people to pause and reflect on how prepared they are for different emergencies that could occur in our community. We hope that people will focus their attention on how to prepare if a flood occurred, a tornado warning is issued or power is lost."
Pottruff says emergency preparedness is everyone's responsibility, but not everyone has to means or capacity to deal with emergences on their own. He asks that you consider checking on your neighbours, family and friends and make sure the people near and dear to you receive the help they need to prepare for an emergency.
"A few things that you can do today is create and practice a customized emergency plan for your family,” said Pottruff. “The more you prepare and practice, the more likely you and your family will have a positive outcome in an emergency."
Preparing an emergency kit with enough supplies to last 72 hours is also key to getting through many emergencies.
In the event of an emergency, officials will provide instructions through the municipal website (www.brant.ca), social media platforms (@BrantCommunity) and local media.
