3 of 12 smoke alarms were not working at the Prospect Street address

TILLSONBURG - A faulty electrical appliance is to blame for an apartment fire in Tillsonburg.

Crews were called just after 7 Wednesday night to the Prospect Street address after heavy smoke was seen coming from the basement apartment.

While crews were able to put the fire out quickly, $5000 in apartment contents and $20,000 in building damages were caused.

Fire crews also noticed three of the 12 apartments did not have working smoke alarms.

Charges for intentionally disabling a smoke alarm are pending.
