Another Roundabout Preferred in the County

Oxford County might see another roundabout out on its roadways. Currently, there are two at major intersections in Oxford: one at County Roads 2 & 6 between Woodstock and Thamesford and the other at County Road 59 & 17. There are also two in the new subdivision on Lakeview Drive in North Woodstock. The next one could be at Highway 3 and Vienna Road south of Tillsonburg. Tillsonburg's Director of Operations Steve Lund says roundabouts have their advantages. "They are becoming more popular. Certainly operationally they save on costs in terms of not have traffic signals and that type of thing. They do reduce severity of vehicle collisions because traffic does have to slow down as oppose to running through lights and that type of thing. So from a safety point of view they help. And they do help save on gas too because people don't have to come to a full stop," said Lund. Lund says the roundabout would be built to accommodate the many transport trucks using Highway 3. The intersection needs restructuring mainly because of problems with turning lanes. Public input can be given at an Information Centre being held at Tillsonburg's Public Library Thursday October 25th from 4pm until 8pm. Informal Presentations will be held at 5pm and 7pm.
