Norfolk Police are investigating an incident from last Wednesday, when a homeowner received a suspicious phone call from a man claiming to be a lawyer.
NORFOLK COUNTY - Norfolk OPP are advising residents to err on the side of caution if they receive a phone call asking for cash.
Last Wednesday, a Norfolk homeowner received a call from a man claiming to be a lawyer. He informed the resident that their son was in prison after being arrested. The man then requested that funds be forwarded to him for the son's bail. The resident declined and promptly contacted police.
This is the third incident involving a phone scammer in the Norfolk County area, with the previous cases resulting in two families collectively losing $6000. Police would like to remind all residents to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious phone calls, emails, and house visits, and to never forward money without first contacting a family member.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should they wish to remain anonymous, they may alternatively call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous online message at www.helpsolvecrime.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
