A petition has been created calling for heavy fines to anyone who wastes valuable resources by calling 9-1-1 to complain about Amber Alerts.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new petition is gaining steam calling for fines to people who call 9-1-1 about Amber Alerts.
Dallia Monacelli started this petition and will be sending it to Doug Ford when she has over 200,000 signatures. Monacelli is a mother of a two year old child and she says it is disgusting that some people would tie up valuable resources during an Amber Alert.
"I get really, really outraged every time I hear about someone calling 9-1-1 to complain about an Amber Alert, I just find it disgusting and I just don't understand how anyone could do that, knowing that children's lives are at risk."
Monacelli says after hearing that the last Amber Alert was effective and people were still calling 9-1-1 to complain, she felt she needed to do something.
"I just wanted to change things, just make the future a little bit better for our children, I just got really fed up hearing with people complaining about a service that was set up to save children's lives and also with the misuse of an emergency line."
The petition already has over 60,000 signatures and you can find a link to the petition online here.
