All's Fair Wear-athon Returns for 5th Year

The All's Fair Wear-athon returns for a 5th year. Starting today participants will be wearing one shirt for 111 hours in one week.

WOODSTOCK - The All's Fair Wear-athon returns for a fifth year.

The event asks participants to put themselves into the shoes - or shirt - of a sweatshop worker by donning one t-shirt for 111 hours in one week. Dave Steenburg from Youth For Christ founded the event; he came up with the idea after reading an article about a sweatshop in Jordan. "The 111 hours is based on a sweatshop in Jordan that I read a report [on] in 2010. And when I realized that they were at the factory for 111 hours I thought, 'What does this look like? What does it feel like?' And so I thought, let's wear a t-shirt for 111 hours, following their schedule. And we'll put it on when they start work and we'll take it off when they stop."

Shirts were bought for $10 at Beantown Coffee in Woodstock. Participants submitted their email and will receive notices starting on May 1st with their 'shifts.' The first day will consist of a 23 hour day, starting at 7am and ending at 6am the next day.

Some schools in the area are participating with proceeds going to Free the Children, while the profits from the shirts at Beantown are going to Youth for Christ.
