Students had a strong presence at an All Candidates Forum in Woodstock for those running for Council and School Board Trustee.
WOODSTOCK/INGERSOLL/TILLSONBURG - Future Oxford is hoping get youth more engaged in municipal politics.
Yesterday they hosted an all candidates forum in Woodstock for those running on town council and school board trustees. Teens were invited through their high schools and had a chance to ask the candidates questions.
Future Oxford member Bryan Smith says this is all part of giving residents more of a voice.
"This is really just one of the many initiatives of the Future Oxford plan. And Christina Atkinson with a group of people brought this forward and it's happening simultaneously with a whole bunch of initiatives including sustainable entrepreneurs initiatives."
The students were given a chance to listen to the candidates and their platforms and they were given a chance to ask questions. Smith says he was really impressed by the students in Woodstock.
"There was an awareness that there are is a larger perspective so there's question's about thing's that are happening provincially and federally. So I was very pleased to see how deeply they thought and how well they understood the impact of global events on local economy."
Future Oxford is hosting similar debates in Ingersoll today and Tillsonburg on Thursday.
