The Perth District Health Unit is looking to collect stories from adults who have struggled to afford dental care.
PERTH COUNTY - The Perth District Health Unit is looking to hear from the public about the costs of dental care.
They want to know how the dentist bills are impacting people on low incomes. Public Health Promoter Katherine Horst says they have been exploring this issue for awhile now.
“We know that residents with lower incomes are less likely to have insurance for dental expenses. If someone lacks coverage or the ability to pay out-of-pocket, their options for getting dental care are very limited. The consequences of untreated dental problems can be significant, from poor health and lower self-esteem to missed days of work."
The Health Unit is looking to collect stories from adults who have struggled to afford dental care. They will share these stories online, in reports, presentations and through media interviews.
Horst says the goal of the project is to raise awareness on the issue.
“These real-life stories will enhance the data we’ve already compiled.”
Adults must be at least 18 years old and live in Perth County to participate. People can submit their stories through the Perth District Health Unit website, by phone, or in person. Visit www.pdhu.on.ca/dentalstory to submit your story online. For more information, call 519-271-7600 ext 245 or toll-free 1-877-271-7348 ext 245.
