The Oxford Addiction Treatment Strategy offers a variety of locations that will help you overcome an addiction.
OXFORD COUNTY - Opioid addiction is front and centre in Oxford County this week after a devastating weekend.
We have had 6 reported overdoses in Woodstock, including one death of a 17 year old teenager. At least two other overdoses were reported in Tillsonburg over the weekend and two near Stratford. Oxford County does have an Oxford Addiction Treatment Strategy and several organizations are working together to provide treatment to anyone suffering from a addiction. Sarah Aalbers with CMHA Oxford says you can visit any of the locations in Oxford County to seek help and everything will remain confidential.
"Our service is completely confidential and if you don't feel comfortable walking into CMHA's doors, we have various doors that you can walk into. Maybe the Community Health Centre is a more comfortable place for you."
She offers this advice to anyone looking to seek treatment today.
"I would suggest that they just come in, even if they are just thinking about it, we offer various programs, everything from peer support, so talking with someone who has been through that experience and can give you some support, our addiction counsellors, we have a family and friends group for people with loved ones suffering through addiction. We offer a group for people who are thinking about making a change and just need to learn some skills and strategies. We really try to meet people where they are at and provide the right service for them."
Aalbers also recommends that anyone who is using Opioids or if you have a loved one using Opioids to pick up a Nalaxone or Narcan kit at your local pharmacy. It can be the difference between life and death. Those kits are available to anyone who requests them, no questions asked.
