Jerry Acchione will serve as the next Mayor of Woodstock once the new City Council is sworn in on November 15th.
WOODSTOCK - The Friendly City will have a new Mayor for the next term of Council.
Jerry Acchione won last night's election with 3,612 votes (38.68 percent).
"I am so thankful to all of Woodstock right now and to all of the volunteers that have been helping us out through this election. This is my third election now and I've never had this kind of public support! It is so overwhelming and I am so thankful for it."
David Hilderley was not too far behind him with 3,441 votes (36.85 percent). During his interview with Heart FM last night, Acchione congratulated Hilderley on a well-run campaign.
"I would like to say congratulations to David Hilderley. I said it right from the get-go if I wasn't going to win, I have always loved and respected David and Patrice and what they do for the community."
Kate Leatherbarrow and Liz Wismer-Van Meer will join City Council for the next term, alongside incumbents Connie Lauder and Mark Schadenberg.
Deb Tait will get to stay on as a City-County Councillor, and she will be joined by newcomer Bernia Wheaton.
Acchione says it was certainly a municipal election to remember.
"Thank you to everybody who ran. Twenty-three of us have the best interests of the City at heart and to have that much commitment from everybody is just phenomenal for our City. Change is here, change is coming that I think people very loudly called for."
With 13 tabulators reporting last night, the City of Woodstock had a total of 9,442 ballots cast.
