United Way Oxford collected over 1,300 donations of feminine hygiene products during this year's Tampon Tuesday fundraiser.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tampon Tuesday was a huge success this year in Oxford County.
The local United Way was collecting feminine hygiene products at the 5 Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Oxford. Resource Development Manager Amanda Kreiger says they actually set a new record this year.
"We accepted over 1,300 hundred boxes of tampons and feminine hygiene products, which is incredible because last year we had our event at Kelsey's sponsored by our Women United and we had over 1,150."
They also raised over $2,500 in cash donations, which will be used to buy more feminine hygiene products at local food banks when supplies run out. All of the hygiene products and cash donated locally will stay local. For example items donated in Tillsonburg will go to the local food bank in Tillsonburg and so on and so forth.
Kreiger says feminine hygiene products are one of the most requested items.
"It is one of the most requested products at food banks but one of the least donated. So there is a huge need in our community to help support families, because they are really expensive. The average woman will spend over $6,000 in her life on menstrual hygiene products."
Kreiger says they really wanted to thank everyone who donated on Tampon Tuesday and the Shoppers locations in Oxford County for letting them set up outside.
