Woodstock City council has approved the motion for an eight-storey building with 103 units on Ferguson Drive. The building will be built where the old monastery is, however it is not known when it will be finished.
WOODSTOCK - There will be a new apartment building built on Ferguson Drive.
Woodstock City council received a new application and approved it at a recent meeting.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says the building will help the city grow.
"Council approved the plan for 103 units in one eight-storey apartment building and we believe it will be a very good fit for the neighbourhood and also a great help when it comes to having more places for families to live in the Friendly City."
Mayor Birtch says when the application was first brought to council, it was originally for two eight-storey buildings. He says it drew a lot of concerns from residents, which led to changes from the developer and more meetings to follow.
PICI Investments will be in charge of the project and the work will be done over the coming months.
He says the work will get underway.
"There will be demolition work that'll be taking place over the coming months to bring that Woodstock Peace Lighthouse down and get the site ready for these new units, so there'll be more piles of dirt in the Friendly City. And just remember when you see these piles of dirt and the cranes and machines working, it means there's more jobs and more families coming to the Friendly City."
The building will be built where the old monastery is, however it is not known when it will be finished.
