Some Woodstock City Councillors are questioning the Art Gallery's ability to sustain itself
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery operating budget request caused some councillors to balk.
The over $500,000 request generated many questions for the new Woodstock Art Gallery Director Mary Reid who has been on the job for six months.
Councillor Shawn Shapton says it's difficult to justify the budget request from the Woodstock Art Gallery, "Mary Reid came forward, asking for an operating budget for approximately $583,000. I struggle to understand how we can continue to sustain that kind of an ask."
Reid says now that renovations at the art gallery are complete they will allow it to operate at its full capacity.
Shapton hopes WAG returns to the table with a revised budget. " I think truthfully, I would like to see the Art Gallery go back and really go through their budget with the fine toothed comb. See what's necessary, what's needed, what's not and come back to council with a new number. I also think it's council's responsibility to go through with a fine toothed comb as well."
Council will deliberate the budget request at a later date before confirming the final budget.
