50-thousand dollars for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and area.
The funding comes in the form of a Trillium Foundation cheque for $50,800.
It was presented last night in Ingersoll, as part of the organization's 100th Anniversary celebrations.
President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, Bruce MacDonald, was on hand for the announcement saying 100-years is a very big milestone. "Well it's huge, because in part we get to talk about 100-years of excellent service to children and families across Canada. But it also gives us an opportunity to talk about where we are going and the services we have yet to provide."
The $50,000 will be used for branding and marketing to help Big Brothers and Big Sisters increase its presence.
McDonald says it's an ongoing challenge in an effort to boost participation in mentoring programs. He tells Heart FM they're working more flexibility into their programs to accommodate people's busy lives. "We have an array of mentoring programs now...in school mentoring, game on, go girls, all of these new initiatives that there's probably a mentoring opportunity that fits for people's schedules. It's one of those things where we're hoping to communicate more, attract more volunteers and get these kids off the waiting list."
