Electric cars put on a show in downtown Woodstock today.
Sun Country brought a couple of electric Tesla's, along with a Chevy Volt and VTRUX to stop at Woodstock Hydro for a charge.
They're also promoting the fact that the 401 from Montreal to Detroit is now fully supported with electric car charging stations.
Woodstock's Hydro's Jay Heaman says, "You know we should be proud of the fact that it's a Canadian company and they've electrified the country coast to coast and they're raising the profile of the fact that electric mobility is here."
At the wheel of one of the Tesla's was Justin Bieber's aunt, Bonnie Bieber, who travelled from Seattle to PEI, and loves the electric car. "It is E-Mazingly fast, quiet, it's a very responsive car, there's no hesitation whatsoever. And there's zero emissions, I mean you can't go wrong. If you're driving an electric vehicle, you're making a good choice."
Another one of the drivers, Jaff Stevenson won the E-Mazing Race. He says the key to winning the coast to coast electric car race was planning ahead. "Basically, plan the road out ahead of time. See what charge stations were coming up, where they were, how powerful they were, and calculate roughly how long I would have to stay there to charge to get enough range to get to the next station."
But taking all that into consideration, he says it wasn't as difficult as you might think. "The fact that we can get Internet in the cars, you can get it on your phone, it's quite easy to find a charge station map. Look up the Sun Country website, see where the charge stations are remotely, find the station, plug in, have a cup of coffee and go about your day."
