Sakura House benefits from Woodstock Smile Cookie proceeds

WOODSTOCK - There were nearly 29 thousand reasons to smile at Sakura House Tuesday.

Tim Horton franchise owners were on hand to present a cheque to VON Oxford for the proceeds of the local 2014 Smile Cookie Campaign. 

Tim Hortons Franchise Owner Leslie Farrell says each community gets to chose which organization they want the cookie proceeds to go to and for the past five years Woodstock has selected Sakura House. 

"What makes this program really nice as well is it's the full proceeds of the cookie sales -- it's not a portion of -- it's the full. You pay $1 for a cookie, $1 goes directly to the charity."

This year's campaign saw a 26 percent increase over 2013 which Farrell believes is a direct result of Sakura House is becoming well used in the community.

"I think you would be hard pressed to find somebody in the City of Woodstock that hasn't been either touched directly or indirectly by some patient that has used the house or some family and I think people now are really starting to understand the importance of what Sakura House does for our community and again, Woodstock is such a generous community and it's really easy for them to give back."

VON Oxford Board of Directors Member Deb Masters says she couldn't be more thrilled.

"The Smile Cookie Campaign has been going on for five years now and has raised over $120,000 so we are absolutely thrilled but really any amount of fundraising donations is critical to keeping the doors open here."
