2012 Preliminary budget discussions are underway. Members of County Council spent much of this morning discussing a 2.4 percent increase for the average Oxford County homeowner. Corporate Services Manager Lynn Buchner says council must now decide where to allocate the $50 plus million dollar levy for the county "as the preliminary budget is presented to council it introduces a $50 million dollar budget for levy purposes and that translates into approximately $871 a year for the average household. That's a $33.00 increase for the average property". Buchner says the increase is a 4 percent over all tax increase over 2011 that includes the final 4 year phase-in of the 2008 current market value assessment. Discussions on the budget will resume next week at a separate budget meeting.
