The Royal Canadian Legion celebrates a successful poppy campaign with a donation to VON Oxford
VON Oxford is reaping the benefits of a very successful local poppy campaign.
Locally, the legion raised $39,000 in 2013 from the sale of poppies and Poppy Chair Mike Pritchard said the Legion wanted to give back with a $10,000 donation to the Sakura House.
"The Sakura House looks after, not only the elderly but a lot of our veterans as well. Without the Sakura House our veterans that are passing on they would be very, very helpless so we think it's only right that we support those people that really help our veterans."
The Legion also donated $3,000 to the local Meals on Wheels Program.
Fund Development Manager of VON Oxford Michelle McKay says the donation means a great deal not only to the organization but to those who depend on their services as well.
"We're extremely grateful for the legion in recognizing these programs and for their generosity in caring about their community and being leaders in the community to recognize the work that VON does."
